PROFILE

 Kikuko Ogura

Kikuko Ogura (fortepiano) was born in Tokyo, Japan, and studied at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music under Professors Yasuko Nakayama, Hiroshi Tamura and Joji Hirai. She won the first prize at the Third Japan Mozart Piano Competition. Her debut was made at a periodic concert of the university to perform Stravinsky's Piano Concert. In 1990 she entered Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatorium to study with Professor W. Brons and in 1993 graduated with honorable distinctions 'CUM LAUDE'. In the meantime she had a series of successful recitals throughout the Netherlands including the luncheon concert in the small hall of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw. She also learned the harpsichord under A. Uittenbosch and the fortepiano by herself. In 1993 she won the first prize for chamber ensembles in the Brugge Early Music Competition, and two years later again in Bruges, won another first prize for the fortepiano, praised as the third prominent pianist in the past 9 years and awarded a special audience prize. Today, her music activity has been developed with a wider repertoire; in solo recitals, chamber ensembles and orchestra concerts she performs a variety of works by Mozart, Beethoven, Grieg, etc. There are a number of her CD's released so far, and her writings on the music has been highly reputed. She is also teaching at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
